Frederick (Charlie) Bowman receives Japan Foundation Dissertation Research Fellowship
Charlie Bowman’s dissertation research proposal is titled "Studies in Middle Japanese Tense and Aspect: Focus on Existential Verb-based Forms." The project is primarily historical in nature, but incorporates dialectal evidence as well, some of which he hopes to gather in fieldwork in northern Japan. Charlie will be based at Osaka University, to have the tutelage of Prof. Satoshi Kinsui, a leading Japanese linguist and authority in tense, aspect and modality in earlier Japanese.
