Tommy Beyl- New undergraduate advisor for DEALL and NELC

DEALL and NELC welcomes our new undergraduate advisor, Thomas Beyl.  Here is his self-introduction:

I graduated from The Ohio State University in 2001 with a BA in Hebrew from the department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures. I then completed a PhD in Hebrew Bible and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion in 2013. During my time as an undergraduate and graduate student I traveled to Israel five times to study or conduct archeological research. My research primarily is focused on Israelite history and material culture during the early Iron Age. My love of ancient history runs parallel with my pursuit of a greater global awareness, and sensitivity to cultural diversity. Through my experiences as a child living in the Philippines and travels to Taiwan, I developed a deep rooted fondness for several Asian cultures. I am passionate about teaching and equipping students with the resources necessary to gain a more global perspective and connect more intimately with diverse culture. I feel honored to have the opportunity to serve as an academic advisor for the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, and look forward to helping students within this department achieve their academic goals.
