Two DEALL faculty members, Professors Meow Hui Goh and Patricia Sieber, were awarded separate grants from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) under the auspices of the “Comparative Perspectives on Culture and Society” program.

Professor Goh was funded for a workshop called “Memory and Text in Premodern East Asia: Concepts, Theories, and Methods” to be held at OSU from Oct 1-3, 2015. Professor Sieber, in collaboration with Young-kyun Oh (Arizona State University), Ann Sherif (Oberlin College) and Julie Nelson (University of Pennsylvania), was funded for a workshop entitled “Comparative Perspectives on Materiality and History of the Book: China and East Asia.” Both workshop promise to make substantial contribution to the burgeoning fields of Memory Studies and Book History respectively.

Both projects will also be generously supported by the OSU Title VI NRC East Asian Studies Center.
