Practicum in East Asian Languages and Cultures

Credit: 7 credit hours.

Undergraduate or continuing education students may opt to take this course for pass (PA)/non-Pass (NP) grading.Classroom: Mendenhall Lab 131 (unless otherwise announced)
Class hours: 11:30 am -12:20 pm and 2:00-3:30 pm
(unless otherwise announced)

Prerequisite:

    High-level competency in the target East Asian language (Chinese or Japanese) and permission of instructors. Ability to handle English at graduate level is assumed.
Objectives:
    The aim of this course is to develop the ability to plan and implement classroom activities based on pedagogical principles discussed in EALL 700 and the presentation of language discussed in EALL 703. Participants will gain performative knowledge of how to present and practice linguistic forms and functions of Chinese/Japanese, and to train learners to perform in Chinese/Japanese.
Requirements and Grading:
    Course grades will be determined on the basis of the following:
Level and quality of participation in discussion sections (approximately 30%)
Teaching plans, implementation, and critique (approximately 60%)
Homework and quizzes (approximately 10%)
Required Materials:

    Same as EALL 700, plus materials used in language programs.
