Japanese Major Program

B.A. Degree in Japanese


The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures offers an undergraduate major in Japanese. The major program includes studies in language, literature, and linguistics. The total number of hours for a Japanese major is 55, in addition to 25 hours of prerequisites. Any given course can count only toward the fulfillment of one category requirement, even if the course appears as an option in more than one category.

Prerequisites and Requirements

Prerequisites: (25 hrs.)

J101.01, 102.01, 103.01, 104.01 or their I.I./SPEAC equivalents (J101.51/101A01, 102.51/102A01, 103.51/103A01, 104.51/104A01) In addition to 20 hours of language, 5 hours of J231-Elements of Japanese Culture-are required.
