In terms of language pedagogy, language and culture cannot be separated. How to embed culture in the language classroom and even the whole language program draw more and more people’s attention. This one-day event is composed of a lecture in the morning and a workshop in the afternoon, focusing on the relation between language and culture teaching.
In morning’s lecture, Dr. Eric Shepherd is going to talk about the Chinese program design and how to involve culture norms (take folklore for example) into language classroom teaching. Meanwhile, he will also share his learning and teaching experience from pedagogy perspective and highlight the crucial relation between language and culture.
In the afternoon’s workshop, we are going to have two demo teaching sessions along with Dr. Shepherd’s feedback. Later, a group discussion will be held based on watching teaching videos.
This event is open to the public. Students from Chinese pedagogy and other fields in East Asian studies are more than welcome to attend.
