CHINESE 5387: Bilingualism in the Chinese Contexts
Introduction to the sociolinguistic study of bilingualism (including multilingualism) and the qualitative study of biculturalism involving the Chinese language and culture. Topics to be covered include lexical borrowing and innovations, code switching, bilingual education, bilingualism in (new) media, language acquisition, language attitudes, language maintenance and loss.
