A survey of literature, art, religion, philosophy, film, and social institutions of the Japanese people from the earliest to the most recent times. Taught in English.

JAPANSE 2255 - Postwar Culture in Germany and Japan

3 credit hours

This course will examine postwar culture in Germany and Japan, looking at films, theoretical texts, memoirs, manifestos, and literary works, subjecting our material to cross-cultural analysis that should deepen as our basis for comparison expands.Team-taught with faculty in German.
