Tokaido, Origami, Temples and Shrines (TOTS) Japan Series 

The (Tokaido, Origami, Temples and Shrines) TOTS team will present the new, visually rich “Virtual Japan Experience” curriculum series developed by a cohort of K-12 and community college educators. This Saturday half-day workshop invites participants to travel through time as they explore Japan's history and culture through three themes: Japan’s Tokaido Road, Origami, and Temples and Shrines (TOTS). Explore the nature, symbols, and art. See Japan in new ways through a series of hands-on activities involving timelines, maps, food, and objects of the Tokaido as well as investigating the art, stories, and symbols found in origami, Buddhist temples, and Shinto shrines. Discover new techniques for bringing East Asian culture into your classroom while walking away with a variety of free resources and interdisciplinary lessons that will help you to successfully take your K-12 students along this journey!

All participants will receive resources for teaching about Japan as well as a contact hours. Participants are also welcome to attend panel sessions of the MCAA conference (Please don't register separately for MCAA. The MCAA schedule will be updated soon.
