Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration Offers Students an Immersive Cultural Experience
A Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration was hosted on Oct 9th by Graduate Teaching Assistant Lulu Yuan, with the help of fellow students Belle Wu and Xiao Zeng. The event welcomed nearly 30 students and offered students a joyful opportunity to experience one of the most cherished holidays in the Chinese community.
The event began with a presentation on the origin and legends of the Mid-Autumn Festival, including the famous story of Chang’e and Houyi. Students then enjoyed a variety of hands-on cultural activities, such as painting lanterns and hand fans, tasting mooncakes, and playing the traditional game of pitch-pot.
Throughout the evening, participants chatted with classmates and instructors, sharing laughter while learning more about Chinese traditions in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.
The celebration was not only a chance to practice Chinese, but also a meaningful way for students to connect with one another and deepen their appreciation of Chinese culture.
Students are also welcome to come to the weekly Chinese Language Table every Thursday from 5:30-6:30 in Hagerty 186. This is a chance for Chinese learners of all levels to practice speaking in a stress-free and supportive environment.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at our Lunar New Year Celebration later this semester!
