DEALL Alumna Hannah Dahlberg-Dodd named Assistant Professor at Tohoku University

DEALL alumna Hannah Dahlberg-Dodd recently accepted a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor in the Center for Integrated Japanese Studies at Tohoku University located in Sendai, Japan. Hannah completed her dissertation in Japanese Linguistics in 2019 under the guidance of Professors Charles Quinn and Mineharu Nakayama. 
 
Hannah is currently a Project Assistant Professor in Tokyo College at the University of Tokyo, where she has been since 2021. She also serves as Japanese language instructor at Temple University, Japan Campus. Some of her recent publications include "Mock Foreigner speech and the reification of mediatized (white) foreignness" (Language and Communication, 2025), "Commodifying adolescence for performance and profit: Language and gender in Japanese idol music" (East Asian Journal of Popular Media, 2024), and "Katakana and the mediatized ‘Other’: Script variation in fantastical narratives" (Japanese Studies, 2022).
