DEALL’s Japanese Program Hosts Workshop on Teaching English in Japan

A classroom with students seated at desks facing two presenters; a slide about elementary school is projected on a screen at the front of the room.
On October 14th, Japanese language instructors Matthew Steinhauer and Joseph Santiago hosted a workshop on working as English teachers in Japanese public schools. Topics included their experiences living in the country, how to be an effective English teacher, and useful tips when applying to English teaching jobs.

Afterwards, they hosted a Q&A session, answering questions from over a dozen students in DEALL’s Japanese program, ranging in level from beginner all the way to advanced. A big thank you to everyone who showed up!

For anyone who was unable to attend the workshop, feel free to contact either Steinhauer-sensei or Santiago-sensei with any questions! As well, be sure to visit the Japanese program’s next professionalization event on November 18th from 5:30 - 6:30 in Mendenhall Lab 115, where Japanese instructor Keitaro Mitsuhashi and one of DEALL’s graduating Japanese majors will present on the process of getting a job in Japan. We hope to see you all there!
