Excitement in the Air: Japanese Program Open House Kicks Off Autumn Semester!

DEALL Graduate Teaching Assistants Kei Suzuki, Nanako Hiroshima, and Miki Arakaki talk to a student about OSU Japanese language courses.
On August 25, 2025, Hagerty Hall 388 came alive with energy and excitement as the Japanese Program hosted its first Open House. With around 30 students in attendance, the event was a vibrant celebration of community, curiosity, and the joy of learning Japanese.
Students had the opportunity to connect directly with professors, instructors, teaching assistants, and the academic advisor. The room buzzed with conversations about the courses offered in the Japanese Program, upcoming Autumn 2025 events, study abroad opportunities, the SPEAC summer program, and how to declare a Japanese major or minor. Information about Oshaberi-kai—the Japanese language table—was also shared, along with many other reasons why studying Japanese is both fun and rewarding.
The goal of the Open House was to warmly welcome (and welcome back!) students to the program, foster a sense of belonging, and spark excitement for the semester ahead. Judging by the smiles and lively discussions, it’s safe to say the event was a resounding success.
We’re thrilled to see such enthusiasm and look forward to a semester filled with learning, laughter, and cultural exploration. Thank you to everyone who joined us—we’re so glad you’re here!
