Ohanami Picnic Event a Big Success!
On Monday, March 31, Oshaberi-kai and the Japanese program co-hosted an Ohanami Picnic, a traditional Japanese custom of enjoying the beauty of cherry blossoms in the spring. The event brought together more than 25 students and faculty members, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere on campus. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom that day, providing a beautiful backdrop for the gathering.
Ohanami, which literally means “flower viewing,” is a long-standing cultural tradition in Japan in which people gather under blooming cherry blossom trees to appreciate their beauty while sharing food and conversation. Inspired by this tradition, the picnic offered participants a chance to experience a piece of Japanese culture firsthand.
During the event, participants enjoyed a variety of Japanese snacks and drinks while engaging in lively conversations. Students and instructors had the opportunity to connect beyond the classroom, fostering new friendships and strengthening existing relationships in a relaxed setting.
