Dr. Jonathan and Dr. Olive Wilkin Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Dr. Jonathan and Dr. Olive Wilkin Scholarship Fund is to facilitate the advancement of a student’s education in Japanese language. The funds may be used for tuition, room and board, study abroad fees and travel, and other educational expenses.
Eligibility
The award is open to all current OSU students. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, completed the first two courses of Japanese, and are committed to mastering the Japanese language. Undergraduate students must be majoring in Japanese. Graduate students must have declared a primary focus on Japanese language. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need; applicants who are receiving scholarships for full tuition are not eligible. The scholarship may be renewable for multiple years, upon receipt of application.
Application
Applicants should provide the following via email to Kelly Harless (harless.47@osu.edu):
- A letter stating their current level of Japanese, plan of Japanese study in 2026-2027, and future goals.
- Their current Advising Report.
- A current resume.
- One letter of recommendation from a current Japanese language instructor to be sent directly to harless.47@osu.edu.
Deadline
In order to be considered for the scholarship, all application materials must be received by February 27, 2026.
Selection
Recipients will be selected by a committee of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures faculty. Recipients will be notified by March 31, 2026.
*Individual scholarships may be greater than $1,000. Actual amount is dependent on applicant pool and annual interest income available for distribution.
