Tsukuba Students’ Visit to Level 3 Japanese Class and Oshaberi-kai

On Wednesday, March 4, students from Tsukuba University visited and participated in two Level 3 Japanese classes. Each class included approximately ten students from each university, creating a balanced and lively environment for conversation and cultural exchange. Students quickly engaged in conversation, asked many questions, and spoke about topics that genuinely interested them. Many even stayed after class to continue their conversations and exchange contact information, forming meaningful connections beyond the classroom.

The following day, on Thursday, March 5, we also welcomed the Tsukuba students to the weekly Oshaberi-Kai, the Japanese Conversation Table. More than 20 students from our Japanese language program attended the event and enjoyed conversations with native Japanese speakers of a similar age. The event was a great success, and the conversations continued throughout the entire hour.

Oshaberi-Kai is a weekly Japanese language table launched by Graduate Teaching Assistant Kei Suzuki, along with student organizers Miki Arakaki, Keitaro Mitsuhashi, and Joseph Santiago, and Lecturer Ayumi Naraoka. The event provides a space for anyone interested in Japanese to practice the language and engage with the community. We also occasionally host workshops on topics such as professional development and writing practices.

Oshaberi-Kai meets every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Hagerty Hall 186 during the Spring 2026 semester, and everyone is welcome to join.
