The course surveys the cultural landscape of contemporary China, with a strong emphasis on the lived experiences, voices, perspectives, and perceptions of and by those groups that hold distinct values, beliefs, and ideologies from the mainstream community. These topics are examined through the lens of both traditional and contemporary Chinese (counter-)culture.
