Bilingualism in the Chinese Contexts

Introduction to the sociolinguistic study of bilingualism (including multilingualism) and the qualitative study of biculturalism involving the Chinese language and culture. Topics to be covered include lexical borrowing and innovations, code switching, bilingual education, bilingualism in (new) media, language acquisition, language attitudes, language maintenance and loss. Women Writers, Culture and Society in East Asia

Close examination of representative works of major women writers from China, Japan, and Korea in the cultural and ideological context of each country.
