The DEALL Performance Lab
DEALL Performance Lab is a hands-on experiential learning course that explores intercultural collaboration at the intersection of the humanities, arts, business, and technology with a focus on East Asian cultures. The course is designed to allow students with any major or minor to apply their culture and language knowledge to a globally-minded creation process. To equip students with this toolkit, the class introduces models for international artistic collaboration, traditional arts sustainability, and 21st-century audience engagement. Through lectures and collaborative, hands-on studio work, students translate cultural research into original scripts, design promotional strategies, and produce mini productions with music, interactive film projections, narrations, and more. This holistic experience allows students from any discipline to develop and reflect upon modes of intercultural understanding. At the same time, students also gain practical skills in immersive project management, artistic directing, and arts entrepreneurship. Taken together, students will hone transferrable skills (critical assessment, creative analysis, teamwork, problem solving, decision-making) for careers in any field, while gaining exposure to a robust framework for producing and managing cross-cultural projects and developing local and global audiences.
