Ai Terada is an Assistant Teaching Professor, who has been a dedicated educator of the Japanese language since she joined DEALL faculty in 2004. Her teaching spans all levels of the curriculum—from introductory to advanced courses—including individualized and intensive tracks.
Currently, Prof. Terada coordinates and teaches the Intermediate Japanese Distance Learning Individualized Program (Japanese 2102.61, 4101.61, 4102.61) and Level Four Japanese courses (Japanese 5101, 5102). She has been regularly teaching summer intensive Japanese courses at Levels 1, 2 and 4 in the Summer Programs in East Asian Concentration (SPEAC) as well.
Prof. Terada has been instrumental in curriculum and material development in DEALL’s Japanese Language Program. She has created teaching materials for the Individualized Instruction Program across multiple levels and designed the curriculum for Level Four Japanese courses. Her work supports student development of expressing themselves in a culturally coherent manner and student agency in learning experiences.
Prof. Terada is also deeply committed to global education. She has served as the Resident Director for Ohio State’s summer global education program, Japanese Language and Culture, and as the Academic Director for the U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program in Japan (2013–2014). As the faculty advisor for DEALL’s exchange programs to Japan, she advises students preparing for education abroad programs.
In addition to her teaching, Prof. Terada mentors graduate teaching associates. She has taught teacher training courses and presented at professional development workshops on effective lesson design.
