Calling for applications from undergraduate students across campus!

If you plan to become a Chinese, Japanese, or Korean major in this academic year, you are welcome and encouraged to apply for our Undergraduate Diversity Award. The awards, each in $500, will be offered each academic year to two new majors of that year.

We understand diversity to be dynamic, constituted by persons from a growing array of backgrounds, cultures, identities and experiences. Examples include, but are not limited to, ethnic and/or racial background, social or economic disadvantage, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, or other characteristics or attributes that may contribute to the diversity of our department.

The award will be made available to the awardees following their declaration of the major in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean and their enrollment in the major program. For information on declaring a major, see: https://artsandsciences.osu.edu/advising/declare-your-major.

There are two deadlines for the award, one in the autumn semester and the other in the spring semester:

Autumn semester: October 24, 2022

Spring semester: March 3, 2023

Students who plan to declare or have declared their major in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean and plan to start or have started their enrollment in the major program in the 2022-2023 academic year are eligible to apply for the award either by the autumn or spring deadline. Students must complete their declaration of the major in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean and begin their enrollment in the major program in this academic year to receive the prize money from the award.  

To apply, submit a Word file that includes your information (full name, OSU email, current academic rank, the major of interest, confirmation to declare the major in this academic year, confirmation to begin enrollment in the major program in this academic year, semester of completion of the major) and a statement in 300-500 words on how, by becoming one of our majors, you will contribute to the diversity of our department. Send your application file via your OSU email with the subject heading “DEALL Undergraduate Diversity Award” to Professor Meow Hui Goh (goh.25@osu.edu).
