Awards from the Chinese Language Teachers Association, 2013

Three DEALL members are recognized with awards from the Chinese Language Teachers Association this year.

Yongfang ZHANG (DEALL Ph.D., advisor Galal Walker) wins Second Place in the 2013 competition for the Cengage Learning Award for Innovative Excellence in the Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language, sponsored by the Chinese Language Teachers Association.

Zhang is currently Assistant Professor of Chinese at Wofford College. Her award-winning project is entitled "Integrating Meaningful Tasks into Beginner-Level Reading and Writing Instruction."

Ying LIU (DEALL Ph.D. Student, advisor Galal Walker) is the winner of the 2013 Cheng & Tsui Professional Development Award of the Chinese Language Teachers Association. The award is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of teachers of Chinese, especially teachers new to the field.

Liu is currently visiting lecturer of Chinese at Ursinus College and she plans to use the award to attend an OPI workshop at ACTFL and make a presentation at the CLTA annual conference. Congratulation, Liu Ying!


Jia YANG (DEALL Ph.D student, advisor Galal Walker) is the winner of the 2013 Action Research Award of the Chinese Language Teachers Association. This award supports action research to improve Chinese language instruction in the classroom setting.

Yang is currently a lecturer of Chinese at University of Notre Dame. Her action research project is entitled "Developing a Training Process for Peer-Tutors of Chinese Language Program." Congratulations, Yang Jia!
