Congratulations to Hunter Klie for receiving a 2022-2023 Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA)

Hunter

One of our PhD students, Hunter Klie, received OSU's 2022-2023 Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA). The GATA is “Ohio State’s highest recognition of the exceptional teaching provided by graduate students serving as Graduate Teaching Associates.” Hunter studies Chinese language pedagogy under the guidance of Professor Xiaobin Jian and has taught undergraduate Chinese language courses since autumn, 2018. Mr. Steven Knicely, who has supervised and guided him in his teaching for the past five years, says “he has consistently gone above and beyond our already high expectations for a DEALL graduate teaching associate, and more than deserves this recognition of his contributions to the program. His was an easy recommendation to make.” Prof. Jian says, “Within the Performed Culture Approach framework, Hunter researches the dynamics between teacher training, teaching behaviors, and learning outcomes. I have been time and again impressed by his keen eyes for details and his sensitivities towards minor changes in teaching that may lead to significantly different learner perceptions and actions. It’s obvious that, as a TA, he embraces his teaching responsibility wholeheartedly and enthusiastically.” Please join us in congratulating Hunter for his great achievement.
