DEALL alumna Derek Reiman has recently accepted a full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction in Japanese position at Ohio University, a nationally top-ranked, public research institution in Athens, Ohio. Derek received his M.A. in May 2024 in Japanese Language Pedagogy, advised by Professors Charles Quinn and Etsuyo Yuasa. 

 

Derek taught English in Universities in Japan, as well as working as a Coordinator for International Relation in Japan prior to his graduate work at OSU. His research and M.A. thesis involved teacher training for volunteers working in Japanese language classrooms in Japan under the guidance of Dr. Mari Noda and Dr. Etuyo Yuasa.
 

This Fall Semester 2024, Derek will join Ohio University's Linguistics Department teaching Japanese and organizing cultural activities at the university. This work will combine Derek's experience with cross-cultural event coordination with the teaching skills sharpened during his time at OSU. Derek is very much looking forward to this new chapter and aims to encourage connection between the departments at Ohio University and OSU
