Simon Wickhamsmith, the foremost translator of modern Mongolian poetry poses with DEALL Chair, Mark Bender.

Wickhamsmith, presently a lecturer at Rutgers, is an expert in Mongolian, Manchu, and Tibetan and the recipient of the Pole star Ward from the Mongolian government.  He has translated the poetry of Mongol poets, including D. Uriankhai, Bavuudorj Tsogdorjin, and Danzanggiin Nyamaa.  His translation of Ts. Oidov's The End of the Dark Era (Phoneme Media, 2015) is among his recent works, along with a forthcoming book on the interface between literature and politics from University of Amsterdam Press.
