Xiaobin Jian will give a talk on the topic "The Third Space" in AAPEAL's Workshop Series
On October 07, 2022, Friday, AAPEAL (Association of the Advancement of East Asian Languages Pedagogy) will host a 90-min workshop featuring the speaker Dr. Xiaobin Jian from the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL) in the classroom of Hagerty Hall 0251. Based on his recent publication The Third Space and Chinese Pedagogy: Negotiating Intentions and Expectations in Another Culture (Co-edited with Xin Zhang, Routledge 2021), Professor Jian will introduce the conceptual framework of “The Third Space” (what, why, and how) with special consideration of American adult learners communicating in East Asian languages and cultures, focusing on the variables affecting the co-construction of a multilingual and transcultural Third Space.
This workshop is open to all graduate students and faculty in DEALL and is also open to the general public. Anyone who is interested in learning, researching, or teaching East Asian languages as foreign languages is welcome to join. This also includes exchange students and visiting scholars.
