Dr. Qianping Gu (顾倩萍) earned her PhD in Linguistics from The University of Texas at Austin, specializing in Syntax & Semantics with a minor in Language Documentation. Her primary research interest is semantics, with a particular focus on lexical aspect. She approached this subject from a comprehensive linguistic theoretical perspective (syntax, semantics, and pragmatics), meanwhile she also examines the acquisition of lexical aspect in additional language learning. More recently, her research interests have expanded to include studies of focus, presupposition, and scalar implicatures. While her work primarily centers on standard Mandarin Chinese (Putonghua), Dr. Gu also investigates other Chinese language variants.
